MK30 Acoustic Target
Originally developed in the 1970s, the MK30 target is a heavyweight acoustic decoy that is similar in size to the heavyweight torpedo. It is primarily used during Anti Submarine Warfare (ASW) training as a target for deep-diving torpedoes, but can also be used as an effective decoy. The MK30’s dual use as both a target and decoy continues to make its use attractive to both the U.S. Navy and foreign allies. For over 40 years, the continued use of the MK30 target system is a testament to the original design and engineering, as well as production standards and build quality. While not as extensive as our lightweight or heavyweight torpedo data, OTS has acquired substantial data on MK30 components.
In a similar fashion to the support of legacy torpedoes, spares support for the MK30 is a niche market related to OTS’ core competences and product line. Size, machining requirements, and technical specifications are often similar to those found in the heavyweight torpedo which leads to a full understanding of the product line and the ability to manufacture key components.
These components include:
- Forward and Aft Propellers
- Shell/Hull Sections
- Skeg Assembly
- Joint Bands
- Other Machined Components
